The Port of Santander (Spain) registered a year-on-year growth of 0.7% in cargo traffic during the January-July 2026 period. In total, 4,098,847 tons were reported to have moved during the aforementioned timeframe.
Details of these figures were provided on the website of the Port Authority of Santander (APS), which stated that "during this period, general cargo, which represents 54% of the total cargo passing through the port, increased by 2.4%, and liquid bulk by 13.3%, while solid bulk decreased by 2.2%."
Regarding container movement, "it stood at 100,264 TEU (twenty-foot equivalent units), 8.6% more than between January and July 2025. As for automobiles, with 202,259 units, they surpassed the figure obtained in the previous year by 3.5%."
"Meanwhile, cruises, although with 14 calls, the same as in 2025 - but with very positive forecasts - increased the number of passengers by 10%, rising from 19,733 in 2025 to 21,632 so far this year," the publication added.
In this regard, the president of the APS, César Díaz, assured that "this traffic record is largely due to the good performance of general cargo, which grew by 2.4% in this period, driven by containers and automobiles, and now accounts for 54% of the total traffic operating in the Port of Santander."
"This is excellent news that is not a one-off event, but a sustained trend over time that brings the port closer to its next objective of reaching eight million tons," concluded the head of the APS.
