Ecuadorian banana exports reached 148.97 million boxes between January and April 2026, representing an 8.64% growth compared to the same period in 2025, according to ACORBANEC data. This performance was supported by increased production, improvements in crop yields, an increase in bagging, and the incorporation of new productive areas, despite the damage caused by rains and floods in provinces such as Los Ríos, Guayas, and El Oro.
The European Union remained the main destination for Ecuadorian bananas with a 33.73% share, followed by Russia, the Middle East, and the United States. Shipments were also recorded to Asia, Eastern Europe, Africa, and Oceania. Among the markets with the highest growth were the European Union, Russia, the Southern Cone, Turkey, Saudi Arabia, and China, a country that continues to increase its purchases, favored by the progressive reduction of tariffs on Ecuadorian bananas and a lower supply from Asian competitors.
The sustained growth of banana exports strengthens Ecuador's position as one of the main global suppliers of this fruit and reaffirms the importance of maritime and port connectivity for foreign trade. Likewise, market diversification and the ability to adapt to climatic and logistical challenges contribute to strengthening supply chains and the international competitiveness of the Ecuadorian export sector.
