The Ministry of Transport and Communications (MTC), through the National Port Authority (APN), reported that Jorge Chávez International Airport would be connected to the Chancay Multipurpose Port Terminal through a logistics corridor that will boost the flow of e-commerce cargo from Asia to South America.
It detailed that the initiative involves an investment of 20 million dollars and that the project would be operational before the end of this year.
According to Lima Airport Partners ( LAP), the connection is part of a "sea-land-air" logistics model that seeks to turn Lima into a regional distribution center for international cargo.
The MTC explained that the scheme leverages the maritime connectivity of the Port of Chancay to transport cargo by land to Jorge Chávez Airport, from where it will be distributed by air to different markets in the region.
As part of the project, a modern 6,885 square meter cargo warehouse will also be implemented, with a direct connection to airport operations, infrastructure that will optimize the transit of goods.
This logistics integration seeks to reduce logistics times and costs and strengthen Peru's position as a strategic platform between Asia and South America.
Currently, Jorge Chávez International Airport handles nearly 90% of national air cargo, positioning it as a key hub for articulation with the Port of Chancay and the strengthening of foreign trade.
With this initiative, the MTC affirmed that it continues to promote the development of a modern and efficient National Port System, which contributes to positioning Peru as the main port and logistics reference in South America.
