The National Port Authority (APN) participated in the International Maritime Congress Symposium: Reconfiguring the Geopolitical Scenario, an event organized by the Inter-American Chamber of National Associations of Maritime Agents (Cianam) and the Peruvian Association of Maritime Agents (APAM).
The event was inaugurated by the APN, representing the sector, an entity attached to the Ministry of Transport and Communications (MTC), where it was indicated that the APN has led a profound transformation of the National Port System, based on the promotion of private investment, the improvement of infrastructure, and the incorporation of port infrastructure and service standards, allowing Peru to consolidate as a strategic point in the region's maritime trade.
"One of the pillars of this growth has been the port concession model. Currently, the country has nine public-use port terminals under concession, located in key regions such as Callao, Paita, Salaverry, Matarani, Pisco, San Juan de Marcona, and Yurimaguas," indicated the APN.
These concessions have generated an accumulated investment exceeding 2.3 billion dollars by January 2026, with estimated commitments of around 4 billion, it stated.
"Additionally, the private port authorization modality has generated an accumulated investment exceeding 2.5 billion dollars," said the National Port Authority.
It noted that the event's topics focused on port development and foreign trade, featuring presentations 'National Multisectoral Foreign Trade Policy to 2040', by the Ministry of Foreign Trade and Tourism (Mincetur), and 'Peruvian Port Development, Projections and Perspectives to 2030', presented by the National Port Authority.
In its presentation, the APN indicated that the fundamental part of port development has been to contemplate a state policy based on the National Port System Law, which includes a model of private sector participation in the country's ports and guarantees that their investment is secure.
"In the medium and long term, we have planned projects for the Lambayeque Port Terminal, the Chimbote Port Terminal, the Tacna Port Terminal, the new Saramiriza and Iquitos port terminals, as well as the Pucallpa, Corío, and Ilo projects," it pointed out.
"To this are added other port projects in concessioned terminals and the logistical integration and connectivity corridors promoted by the Peruvian State," added the authority responsible for the National Port System.
The event also featured the specialized technical session 'Operational Delays and Port Congestion', by Proinversión, highlighting the importance of port operations.
The APN, as the entity responsible for port development in the country, reaffirmed its commitment to ensure that the port sector is more competitive, inclusive, and with high-quality standards, promoting an open-door policy towards the national and international community with the aim of promoting articulated growth of the country's ports.
