With the commissioning of high-tech equipment donated by the United States, the Chancay megaport strengthens its security and competitiveness in foreign trade, consisting of modern non-intrusive inspection scanners, the Ministry of Transport and Communications (MTC) highlighted today.
In this regard, the Minister of Transport and Communications, Aldo Prieto Barrera, participated in the commissioning of the equipment donated by the United States government at the modern Chancay maritime terminal.
The activity was attended by the Ambassador of the United States of America in Peru, Bernie Navarro, and the National Superintendent of Customs and Tax Administration (Sunat), Javier Franco Castillo, who highlighted the importance of international cooperation to promote more efficient, secure, and competitive logistics.
The new scanners will allow containers to be inspected without physical opening, significantly reducing inspection times and logistical costs.
They will also facilitate the detection of illicit or misdeclared goods, strengthen the traceability of operations, and contribute to preserving the cold chain of perishable products destined for international markets.
"We are taking a transcendental step to consolidate Peru as a strategic player in global trade. The incorporation of this technology strengthens logistical security, improves the competitiveness of our exports, and brings us closer to the goal of turning the country into the main logistics hub of the South Pacific," said Minister Aldo Prieto.
The head of the MTC stressed that the operation of these equipment complements the investments made in port infrastructure and will allow addressing the sustained growth of Chancay megaport operations without affecting cargo handling times.
The figures reflect the dynamism achieved by the port. From January to May 2026, mobilized TEUs registered an increase of 69% compared to the same period in 2025.
Likewise, exports grew by 12%, while imports increased by 77%.
With the implementation of these scanners, the Ministry of Transport and Communications reaffirms its commitment to promoting more efficient, secure, and competitive logistical corridors, capable of addressing the growth of Peruvian foreign trade and strengthening Peru's integration with the main markets of the world.
