The Port Authority of Las Palmas has studied and explained that the slight decrease in fuel supply so far this year was due to security reasons.
Bad weather and strict compliance with safety conditions are the main reasons for the decrease in tons delivered in January, March, April, and May 2026.
According to Beatriz Calzada, president of the Las Palmas Authority, "the explanation for the drop in fuel supply seems to be mainly due to a single-axis barge that cannot operate in our port because it does not meet the safety conditions required by the Maritime Captaincy."
However, as Calzada added, "this barge loads fuel in the Port of Las Palmas and supplies it in the Port of Santa Cruz de Tenerife," so the tons are accounted for at that terminal and not in Las Palmas.
