Ecuador's banana exports began 2026 with a 9.66% growth compared to the same period last year, reaching 36.59 million boxes, according to ACORBANEC statistics. The increase was driven by the recovery of demand in strategic markets, especially Russia and the European Union, which concentrated the majority of shipments.
The European Union solidified its position as the main destination with 34.36% of the exported volume, followed by Russia with 22.05%. The dynamism also responded to an increase in exportable supply and lower production in competing Central American countries. However, the sector faced limitations due to a shortage of refrigerated containers, port delays, security issues in strategic access points, and sanitary controls associated with Fusarium R4T.
This positive performance confirms the importance of bananas as one of the country's main export products, although challenges persist in strengthening its competitiveness. Overcoming logistical restrictions and optimizing supply chain efficiency will be fundamental to sustain export growth, improve the performance of port operations and maritime transport, and consolidate the presence of the Ecuadorian product in international markets.
