The Government of Ecuador has initiated the first round of negotiations to sign a Partial Scope Agreement with the Dominican Republic, with the aim of expanding access for Ecuadorian products to that market and strengthening bilateral trade. The process, led by the Ministry of Production, Foreign Trade, Investments, and Fisheries, seeks to generate new opportunities for productive sectors and consolidate the presence of Ecuadorian exportable goods in the Caribbean.
During this first stage, conducted virtually, the delegations are addressing issues related to market access, rules of origin, trade facilitation, sanitary and phytosanitary measures, technical barriers, trade defense, and dispute resolution. The Dominican Republic is a strategic market for Ecuador, with a favorable trade balance and an 11.4% growth in Ecuadorian exports during the first quarter of 2026, driven by products such as shrimp, flowers, metal manufactures, and electrical appliances.
Strengthening trade relations with Caribbean markets opens new opportunities to increase maritime cargo movement and consolidate regional transport routes. Likewise, greater commercial dynamism will contribute to boosting port activity and logistics services linked to foreign trade, strengthening Ecuador's international connectivity.
