Iraq and Pakistan Strike Iran Transit Deals to Move Oil and LNG Through Hormuz
Iraq and Pakistan have secured bilateral agreements with Iran to transit oil and liquefied natural gas through the Strait of Hormuz, according to five sources. Iraq obtained safe passage for two very large crude carriers carrying approximately 2 million barrels each on May 12, while two tankers loaded with Qatari LNG are headed to Pakistan. The deals demonstrate Iran's shift from blocking the strait to controlling access to it as a formalized corridor.
