First Ethanol-Methanol Bunkering Operation Completed in Rotterdam
The Port of Rotterdam hosted the first ethanol-methanol bunkering operation, with Singapore-based X-Press Feeders trialing a blended fuel (10% ethanol, 90% methanol) on the container ship Eco Levant. The 148-meter dual-fuel vessel, built in 2024 and flagged to France, can reduce GHG emissions by up to 65 percent. Ethanol can reduce emissions by as much as 90 percent compared with heavy fuel oil, supporting the shipping industry's decarbonization goals targeting net-zero by 2050.
