Preparation for contingencies related to hazardous materials continues to gain importance in the operations of the Port of Manzanillo, one of the most relevant logistical hubs in the Mexican port system. In this context, the National Port System Administration (Asipona) Manzanillo conducted a specialized practice for the identification and containment of hazardous materials (HAZMAT), aimed at strengthening the operational capabilities of its personnel.
The session was part of the permanent risk response scheme implemented in the port facility and focused on enhancing the response capacity of the teams responsible for handling emergencies within the maritime-port installations. The activities combined theoretical and practical exercises aimed at addressing incidents related to hazardous substances, an increasingly sensitive component within logistics and foreign trade dynamics.
With this, Asipona Manzanillo seeks to reinforce the action protocols of its operational personnel, particularly those of the Port Emergency Coordination (CEP), the area responsible for coordinating immediate response actions to different contingency scenarios within the port.
The practice also falls within the scope of complying with the Port Emergency Response Plan, a document that establishes specific guidelines for facing incidents that could compromise the safety of operations, infrastructure, or personnel involved in maritime and logistical activities.
The port authority highlighted that these types of drills and training are carried out permanently and under different scenarios within the port community, with the aim of strengthening inter-institutional coordination and ensuring a timely response to any eventuality.
The increasing movement of goods and hazardous materials in the Port of Manzanillo has heightened the need to maintain trained personnel and updated protocols, particularly in an environment where operational continuity and safety have become strategic factors for port competitiveness.
With these actions, Asipona Manzanillo reinforces its prevention and risk management strategy, while seeking to consolidate safer conditions for operations and for the various actors that make up the maritime-port community.
