Within the framework of the Sustainability Strategy of Puerto Ventanas S.A. (PVSA), a subsidiary of the Sigdo Koppers group, the company has completed five years of 100% renewable electricity supply from Chilean sources, certified by The International Tracking Standard Foundation, for its port operations and new developments.
"Sustainability and energy management are a key pillar for the company, for which it aligns with the international ISO 50001 standard, which it has held since 2014 and which forms part of its Integrated Management System," PVSA communicated.
"Energy transition and carbon footprint management are two challenges in which we have made sustained and significant progress at PVSA, achieving a more efficient and cleaner operation. Our processes and continuous improvement strategy are oriented towards world-class processes that add sustainable value to our clients, with initiatives such as operating with energy from renewable sources," commented Luis Fuentes, Sustainable Operations Manager at Puerto Ventanas.
The International Renewable Energy Certificate (I-REC) is an international proof that certifies that the electricity consumed by PVSA was generated from renewable sources in Chile (such as solar, wind, hydraulic, among others). In this regard, its use is consolidated as a key tool to face industry challenges sustainably.
"Additionally, since the beginning of PVSA's energy efficiency strategy more than 10 years ago, the company has promoted standards and executed projects such as high-efficiency motors with automatic drive for the solid bulk transfer system and the operation of various equipment, which allows for efficient energy use," PVSA specified.
In its 2025 certification, the declaration of the 7,222 MWh of electricity generated from renewable sources consumed by PVSA was made by the port's energy provider. The consumption of energy from renewable sources allows for offsetting the emission of 1,781 TonCO2 equivalent.
The certificate obtained corresponds to 2025, the year in which PVSA was recognized for its 10 years of voluntary commitment to the Energy Excellence Seal granted by the Ministry of Energy through the Energy Sustainability Agency, and with the HuellaChile program promoted by the Ministry of the Environment.
