More than 250 tile manufacturers, associations, shipping companies, freight forwarders, and operators from the entire logistics chain related to the tile sector gathered at the first edition of PortCeramic Day, organized by the Castellón Port Authority and the PortCastelló Foundation. The event was inaugurated by the President of the Castellón Port Authority, Rubén Ibáñez, who highlighted the Valencian terminal's potential for exporting ceramic products.
During the technical conference, designed to reinforce the port's role as the logistical heart of the ceramic industry, companies Pamesa, Kaltun Ibérica, and Naviera Arkas were awarded in the categories of export excellence, leadership in raw material imports, and shipping companies' trajectory linked to the sector, respectively.
In his speech, Ibáñez explained that this event signifies "training, dissemination, advocacy – we are always on the side of the ceramic sector, and now more than ever – and recognition." He added, "What we want is to teach you, show you, and continue to insist on the strength of the Port of Castellón with the ceramic sector. It is a moment to continue uniting synergies and strengthening what it means for the ceramic sector and for the Port of Castellón."
The head of PortCastelló emphasized the potential of the Port of Castellón, not only for the import of the ceramic sector, as 85% of the sector's raw material passes through this terminal, but also to encourage the sector to use the port more for exports. In this regard, Ibáñez recalled some of the terminal's advantages over others, such as the 40% bonuses on containers that other ports do not offer.
The President of the Port Authority stated, "We are the great logistics platform for the ceramic sector. We are at the service of the sector 365 days a year; we are the port for the import of the ceramic sector, but we also want to be the port for exports."
"The Port of Castellón has much more capacity than the sector currently uses. We have much more room to grow with the sector. We want to be your port, and we proudly display the ceramic DNA," Ibáñez asserted.
"The Port of Castellón is more than a logistics platform; it is a great opportunity for the ceramic sector, for the economic growth of the province, and a great opportunity for the future of all of us. The future of the province of Castellón absolutely depends on the ceramic sector and the Port of Castellón," Ibáñez concluded.
The program featured high-level presentations, such as that by the CEO of the Port Authority, Manuel J. García, on the economic impact of the sector, and a master session by economist Juan Carlos Martínez Lázaro on the reconfiguration of global trade in markets such as the USA, India, and the Maghreb.
Additionally, there were two key roundtables: one titled PortCastelló: logistics hub of the ceramic sector, with the participation of Ascer, Crimidesa, Portsur, and Ateia-Oltra, and a second one on The Port of Castellón, logistical ally of the Maghreb, with representatives from Anffecc, Realonda, and Noatum.
The event also included the participation of the President of the Provincial Council of Castellón, Marta Barrachina, who gave a presentation on The future of the province of Castellón through the port, and concluded with a guided tour of the port by catamaran.
The event was made possible thanks to the collaboration of entities such as Noatum Ports, Portsur, TMG, Ocmis, and the Provincial Council of Castelló.
The awards, distributed in three categories, aim to highlight logistics as a key element in the international competitiveness of the ceramic cluster. Pamesa's export leadership and its strong commitment to the Port of Castellón as a gateway to the world, Kaltun Ibérica's strategic role in ensuring the flow of raw materials necessary for industrial production through PortCastelló, and Naviera Arkas's commitment to connectivity and operational excellence in the port, made them deserving of these awards.
