The Port of Tarragona solidified its dynamism during the first half of 2026, achieving an accumulated maritime movement of 15,120,848 tons, representing a 6.5% increase compared to the same period of the previous year. For the month of June, the increase was 6.9%, with a total of 2,463,953 tons moved at the Tarragona docks.
The bulk liquids group continues to be the main pillar of port activity, with a total of 9,894,677 tons (+7.9%) between January and June. Within this group, the strong performance of chemical products stands out, having experienced an 18.6% growth to exceed 2 million tons.
Crude oil, with 4.47 million tons, remains stable as the heaviest commodity at the Port of Tarragona, representing 29.6% of the total traffic. Other petroleum products also showed very positive performance, with a 12.5% increase.
Strength in Bulk Solids and Agri-food
Bulk solids closed the semester with a favorable balance, registering 4,302,544 tons, representing a 7.5% increase. Despite the decrease in coal and petroleum coke (-39.3%), this decline was offset by the good performance of other commodities.
The agri-food sector remains one of the strategic assets of the Tarragona docks. The movement of cereals, feed, and flours grew by 4.6% year-to-date, totaling 2.84 million tons. Furthermore, the increase in iron ore should be highlighted, which has seen its movements increase by 54% to reach 812,892 tons during these first six months of the year.
Regarding general cargo, although the accumulated semester shows a slight decrease of 9.7%, the containerized cargo segment maintains a positive trend with a 7.7% growth in TEUs.
In the automotive sector, June was particularly strong with the loading and unloading of 19,117 units, 10.6% more than in June 2025. Although the overall year-to-date total is still below the previous year, the latest month's data provides optimism for the second half.
