The Ministry of Transport and Communications (MTC), through the National Port Authority (APN), reported that the Port of Callao consolidated its position as the fourth most important in the region, by registering 3.07 million TEUs. This was revealed by ECLAC's FAL 414 Bulletin, considered one of the most relevant reports on port performance during 2024-2025.
According to the study, the ranking is led by the Port of Santos (Brazil) with 5.48 million TEUs mobilized; followed by Manzanillo (Mexico), with 3.92 million; and Cartagena Bay (Colombia), with 3.70 million. Likewise, the Port of Callao maintained its fourth-place position achieved in 2023, surpassing Manzanillo International Terminal (MIT) in Panama.
The report also highlights the strategic potential of the Port of Chancay, considered one of the most strategic logistics projects in South America. International projections estimate that it could reach a mobilization of up to 3.5 million TEUs by 2032, driven by its direct connection between South America and Asia, which will allow for reduced transport times and logistics costs for regional trade.
The MTC reaffirms its commitment to continue strengthening the competitiveness of the National Port System through the promotion of investments, infrastructure modernization, and articulation between the public and private sectors. These actions aim to consolidate Peru as a strategic hub for international maritime trade and enhance its integration with the world's main markets.
