Personnel from the Specialized Prosecutor's Office for Drug Trafficking Crimes (Fetid), in coordination with Customs and the Peruvian Navy, successfully seized more than 900 kilograms of cocaine alkaloid during an operation carried out at the Paita Port Terminal. The discovery was made after reviewing a reefer container that was in transit through the maritime facility. According to the shipping information, the container came from Puerto Caldera, in Costa Rica, destined for Puerto Quetzal, in Guatemala, transporting boxes of apples, reported El Regional de Piura. During the inspection, authorities detected black polyethylene bags placed on wooden pallets. Upon inspecting 25 polypropylene bags, a total of 762 brick-type rectangular packages were found, wrapped with beige adhesive tape and marked with logos. After conducting preliminary tests, a positive result for cocaine alkaloid was determined. Subsequently, after official weighing, it was determined that the drug reached a total gross weight of 906.950 kilograms. The Public Ministry ordered the confiscation of the illicit substance, as well as the sealing and packaging of the corresponding samples. Likewise, it ordered the transfer of the seized drug and all case documentation to continue investigations to determine responsibilities and the origin of this illegal cargo.
