The acquisition of the Marine Stewardship Council (MSC) Certificate by Perupez of Peru will be propitious for other Peruvian fishing companies to reach other international first-class markets and restaurants with their main marine products.
This was stated by the president of the Peruvian Eel Producers Association (APPA) and vice president of the Fishing and Aquaculture Committee of the National Society of Industries, Darío Alvitez.
"Peru will be seen differently as there are a series of forums and meetings of countries that have this type of fisheries. This is a door that opens for us so that commercially other good Peruvian fishing companies can enter the international fishing market," he said.
Referring to exports, Alvitez revealed that with the presence of the "Coastal El Niño" phenomenon, their foreign sales will increase.
The head of APPA pointed out that the warming of the Pacific Ocean waters favors the eel.
"We are going to improve exports and, in addition, we will enter (international markets) with final products for the final consumer, and that is why we obtained the (MSC) seal in order to enter the most demanding markets in the world such as: Japan, the United States, and European countries," he emphasized.
He specified that Peruvian eel exports will exceed 6 million dollars by the end of this year, but in the next five years, with already processed products, their foreign sales would reach 20 million dollars.
Other marine species that will be favored by the warming of the sea waters are: bonito, tuna, flying fish, and mahi-mahi.
Finally, the vice president of the Fishing and Aquaculture Committee of the S.N.I. urged the next government to interact with business associations, because they are betting "long-term."
"Let's bet long-term, continue opening markets and providing sustainable work in Peru," he concluded.
Marine Stewardship Council is a global non-profit organization that certifies sustainable fishing.
If you see its blue logo on seafood products, it means they come from fisheries that care for the environment and avoid overfishing.
Peruvian Eel Producers Association (APPA) is the official guild that groups fishing companies dedicated to the extraction and processing of eel (Ophichthus remiger) in Peru.
