The project is located in the Majes district, Caylloma province, Arequipa region, and will become the first terminal of its kind in Peru.
The APN, an entity attached to the MTC, granted Port Authorization to the company Horizonte de Verano SAC for the development of a port project which, in its first stage, consists of two (2) single-buoy moorings and underwater pipelines. It will also have a maritime terminal with an ammonia storage system located on the coast, featuring thermally insulated tanks to store this compound at cryogenic temperatures, in addition to a system of submarine pipelines for supplying ammonia to tanker vessels and a desalination plant.
The comprehensive project includes a plant that will produce green hydrogen and ammonia. The differentiating characteristic of ammonia obtained through this process, compared to ammonia derived from hydrocarbons, is that it is obtained from seawater and air, without emitting CO2 during its use. Only renewable energy, such as solar and wind, will be used for its production.
The estimated total investment for the Horizonte de Verano project is USD 540 million, which will be developed in five (05) stages. The first stage is expected to involve an investment of USD 120 million and commence operations by the end of 2029.
