More than 9,000 passengers chose Fred. Olsen Express's maritime route between the Canary Islands and Huelva during June and July, nearly 11% more than in the same period of 2025. This growth translates to almost 600 more travelers than last summer and positions the start of the summer departure operation at record figures for the shipping company.
The increase in data coincides with the comprehensive renovation of the Buenavista Express, the shipping company's new vessel that operates the route between Huelva and the Canary Islands archipelago. With a length of 172 meters, a capacity to sail at 21.5 knots, and the ability to transport up to 1,850 linear meters of cargo, the ship has recently modernized its common areas, dining areas, and rest zones to transform the journey into an experience similar to a mini-cruise.
The Fleet Director of Fred. Olsen Express, Juan Ignacio Liaño, stated that "this proposal, coupled with the advantages of maritime transport such as traveling with your own vehicle, without luggage limitations, and with more comfort for families, pets, and those transporting a larger volume of belongings, has contributed to the route registering a record number of users this year."
The journey begins long before boarding. For this reason, Fred. Olsen Express works in coordination with port authorities to continue improving the passenger experience, especially at the Port of Huelva.
"Our goal is for the Fred. Olsen Express experience to begin from the moment of arrival at the port. We are working with the port authorities to make the most of high-quality facilities and enhance their use to continue improving the comfort of our travelers, especially families, the elderly, and those requiring special attention, offering a more comfortable and pleasant wait even during the summer months," assured Liaño.
The journey connecting the ports of Santa Cruz de Tenerife, Las Palmas de Gran Canaria, and Huelva takes approximately 33 hours.
