Fred. Olsen Cargo Express, the shipping company's specialized division for maritime freight transport, has surpassed one million tons and 140,000 linear meters of goods transported in two years, since the launch of this service in May 2024.
This growth has been driven by the incorporation of the Breñas Cargo in July 2025. This is the third Ro-Ro vessel in the fleet, with a capacity to transport up to 1,500 linear meters of cargo and 7,000 tons, which has just completed its first anniversary since it began operating.
The reinforcement of the freight transport service, materialized two years ago with the creation of the specialized Cargo Express division, responds to the company's commitment to meet the growing demand for the transport of dry products, refrigerated goods, and special loads. This commitment allows for more efficient, secure, and market-adapted logistics solutions.
The Fred. Olsen Express Cargo Division is a fundamental cog in the company's connectivity strategy, as it optimizes the work it had been developing for years on its passenger ships and reinforces its commitment to the economic development of the archipelago.
The commissioning of the Breñas Cargo in July 2025 joins the Ro-Ro vessels Bentayga Cargo and Bahía Cargo, which have been operating since 2024 through territorial coverage that helps manage times and resources more efficiently.
Likewise, the incorporation of the Breñas Cargo allowed the company to reinforce its freight service, which now has three exclusive vessels to operate between islands. In this way, the shipping company offers a regular service that also includes three weekly rotations on a route connecting Santa Cruz de Tenerife with Santa Cruz de La Palma in just six hours. In addition, it directly links the 'Isla Bonita' (La Palma) with Gran Canaria, Fuerteventura, Lanzarote, and the peninsula, via the route to Huelva.
The Fred. Olsen Express Fleet Director, Juan Ignacio Liaño, stated that "the incorporation of the Breñas Cargo has been key to consolidating this service and reinforcing our commitment to reliable, punctual connectivity that ensures the supply of essential goods to the different islands of the archipelago. Among the main demanded goods are high-consumption products such as bottled water, food, soft drinks, beer, textiles, and general parcel delivery."
The service of this division, Fred. Olsen Cargo Express, accepts both hooked and unhooked units, which simplifies logistics and optimizes resource management by adapting to the specific needs of each client. This flexibility allows it to transport any type of cargo without the need for the driver to travel on board.
