Port of Barcelona is hosting the VIII Workshop on Operational Intervention in Technological Risks, technical workshops for Fire Departments across Spain with the aim of sharing common intervention strategies and procedures in port and industrial areas.
The workshops, attended by more than 60 professionals, including firefighters and experts, allow participants to learn, share, and develop advances in interventions associated with risks in industrial environments such as the Port of Barcelona, where Barcelona Firefighters provide the Civil Protection, Fire Prevention and Extinction, and Rescue Service.
"Changes in port activity since 2013, when the Port of Barcelona hosted the second edition of the Workshop on Operational Intervention in Technological Risks, mean that we have to adapt our intervention models. Today, these models must include new risks such as alternative fuels - LNG or methanol - or OPS systems for quay electrification, to give two examples," explained Anna Perera, Head of Industrial Safety at the Port of Barcelona.
Thus, the Barcelona Firefighters will carry out a demonstration of maneuvers with large flows, in which they will have the collaboration of a tugboat from the Port of Barcelona, and subsequently, they will participate in a drill at a bulk liquid terminal on the Energy Quay.
In both cases, the Barcelona Firefighters thus demonstrate the capacity and effectiveness of the equipment supplied by the Port of Barcelona within the framework of the collaboration agreement between the Fire Department and the Port Authority.
This is the second time the Port of Barcelona has hosted these workshops, which are held every two years.
