The Mar del Plata Regional Port Consortium is advancing in the maintenance of the terminal's maritime safety lighting system by replacing three of its seven strategic beacons.
"Navigation safety is a priority, and luminous signaling is a vital element for the entry and exit of vessels to our terminal. That is why we are replacing the beacons with modern equipment that offers better performance than the existing ones," stated Marcos Gutiérrez, president of the Mar del Plata Regional Port Consortium, who anticipated that this equipment renovation plan will be completed in two stages.
Nautical beacons and lanterns are used for maritime signaling, and their lighting range varies between six and 14 miles. In the case of the Port of Mar del Plata, seven are deployed at the North Breakwater, South Breakwater, Shelter Breakwater, Alignment 217°, Alignment 238°, End of Piers 1-2-3-7, and Nautical Club Beacon.
In this first phase, according to initial diagnoses of the condition of this equipment, it was decided to prioritize the replacement of the beacons corresponding to the North Breakwater, South Breakwater, and Shelter Breakwater.
These works, which improve the nautical safety system, are in addition to others executed and projected by the Mar del Plata Regional Port Consortium to restore optimal conditions for operations in dock areas and, across the entire jurisdiction, others that allowed for the comprehensive recovery of public lighting service and the road network.
