Researchers Want to Use AI and Robotics to Find Ship Defects in Outfitting
Researchers from the University of Michigan and MIT are developing autonomous robots and AI models to detect anomalies during ship outfitting. The system will collect LiDAR and camera data to create a digital model of the built structure, compare it with design drawings, and identify deviations. The University of Michigan-led project is funded through a $6.2 million grant from the Japanese Ministry of Land, Infrastructure, Transport and Tourism.
