Cruising is at the Forefront of Decarbonization Transition Says RINA
RINA experts assert that the cruise industry is leading maritime decarbonization efforts, with more than 30 LNG-fueled ships now operating globally—nearly 10 percent of the ocean-going cruise fleet. Michele Landro, RINA Vice President, emphasizes that decarbonization requires a phased approach combining multiple technologies rather than a single solution, including alternative fuels, energy efficiency upgrades, and operational measures, while highlighting challenges in shore power infrastructure readiness and regulatory certainty.
