Australia Names First Ship in Strategic Fleet
Australia selected the ANL Kokoda, a 2011-built 23,000-deadweight-ton geared cargo ship, as the first vessel in its Strategic Fleet Pilot Program. The vessel will become Australian-flagged and crewed, available for government requisition during emergencies and supply chain disruptions. The five-year pilot program targets three vessels initially and represents Australia's most significant effort in decades to rebuild sovereign commercial shipping capability amid growing concerns over supply chain resilience and national security.
