China's Military Patrols Scarborough Shoal Amid South China Sea Dispute

China's military and coast guard conducted patrols around Scarborough Shoal on Tuesday as part of safeguarding Beijing's territorial claims in the disputed South China Sea. The Southern Theatre Command of the People's Liberation Army said its naval and air forces conducted combat-readiness patrols in the territorial waters and airspace around the shoal, while the China Coast Guard enhanced patrols this month. The move followed joint U.S.-Philippine drills near Scarborough Shoal over the weekend.
