MSC Receives Fourth 10,300 TEU LNG-Powered Containership

Zhoushan Changhong International delivered the MSC Stella MX to Mediterranean Shipping Company (MSC). This is the fourth 10,300 TEU LNG dual-fuel containership in the series commissioned by the shipping company.

The christening and delivery ceremony took place at the shipyard's facilities, marking a new milestone for the construction program that the company is developing together with CIMC ORIC.

The vessel, measuring 299.95 meters in length and 45.6 meters in beam, is classified by DNV and equipped with LNG dual-fuel main engines and generators that incorporate a hybrid high and low-pressure gas supply system.

The design of this vessel includes features prepared for the future use of ammonia and methanol, achieving an Energy Efficiency Design Index (EEDI) approximately 50% lower than the IMO Phase III emissions baseline. In this way, the vessel is positioned as a unit with high environmental performance and economic efficiency.

The MSC Stella MX is the fourth vessel in the series commissioned by MSC in 2023. The first, MSC Maria Renata, was delivered on May 25, 159 days ahead of schedule; the second, MSC Maria Laura, on June 8, 206 days early; the third, MSC Maria Marilyn X, on July 30, 274 days early; and the Stella MX surpassed all records by being delivered 301 days ahead of schedule.

The contract includes the construction of ten 10,300 TEU LNG-powered units, with an approximate value of USD 1.3 billion and successive deliveries scheduled until 2027.
