Coast Guard Awards Largest-Ever Construction Contract for Cape May Revamp
The U.S. Coast Guard awarded a $400 million contract to Whiting Turner Contracting Co. for a comprehensive upgrade to training facilities at Cape May, New Jersey, the service's sole accession center. The largest shoreside contract in Coast Guard history will expand capacity to train 8,000 recruits annually, including new barracks, a seamanship training facility, galley, fire station, and VIP stands. Funding came from the One Big Beautiful Bill Act signed in July 2025, which provided $4.4 billion for Coast Guard infrastructure recapitalization, with all funds required to be used by September 2029.
