Miguel Palacios was elected as the new president of the board of directors of Magallanes Puerto Sostenible (MPS), the body that brings together 14 public and private actors from the regional port sector and seeks to bring its contribution closer to the city and its inhabitants.
The change was defined in a session held in July, in which the entire composition of the executive board was also renewed, now consisting of Juan Carlos Bacho (Agunsa), César Rojas (Transmares), Pamela Muñoz (IST), and Ronald Reyes (Ultramar).
Thus, Miguel Palacios, current manager of Ultraport Punta Arenas, replaces Miguel Palma, former general manager of Empresa Portuaria Austral (EPA), who until now presided over the organization.
Palacios is an industrial civil engineer from the Universidad Técnica Federico Santa María and has worked at Ultraport since 2016. He joined the company as an Operations Engineer in Mejillones and, after holding various positions, currently directs operations in Punta Arenas.
"We want to strengthen the public-private alliance we have and bring the port closer to the people, so they can learn firsthand about the work of the terminals. Our focus is always on community, port safety, and environmental care. We want people to come closer, to know what we do and, who knows, maybe some will end up working in the port," said Miguel Palacios.
In recent years, the social component of MPS has promoted actions such as the occupational risk prevention campaign and the race for the Rehabilitation Days, whose funds raised between October and November are allocated to the Club de Leones Cruz del Sur. Looking ahead to this new stage, the board will maintain these projects and activate new channels of engagement with the community.
