U.S. Forces Disable Commercial Vessel, Showing Iran Blockade Still Active Despite Peace Talks
U.S. Central Command disabled the Gambia-flagged cargo vessel Lian Star on May 29 in the Gulf of Oman after it ignored more than 20 warnings and continued toward an Iranian port in violation of the U.S. maritime blockade. The strike occurred one day after President Trump suggested a potential breakthrough in negotiations to reopen the Strait of Hormuz. CENTCOM has now disabled five commercial vessels and redirected 116 others during blockade operations, underscoring that enforcement remains active despite diplomatic progress.
