Shipping Safety Improves Dramatically: 2025 Claims Data Reveals 66% Drop in Total Losses

According to Allianz, the shipping industry has significantly improved safety standards. In 2016, there were 127 total losses of vessels over 100 gross tonnes (about one every three days), while in 2025 only 43 were recorded (less than one per week). However, fires and explosions remain concerning with 218 cases reported in 2025, the decade's second-highest year.
