MSC Incorporates Port of Lázaro Cárdenas into Sierra Service

The Port of Lázaro Cárdenas has been included in the Sierra service of Mediterranean Shipping Company (MSC). The launch of this route, which also includes Manzanillo, was marked by the arrival of the container ship MSC Domitille.

In Lázaro Cárdenas, this service, which connects Mexico with Asia, will operate on a weekly basis.

"The incorporation of this new service represents an important step to expand the maritime connectivity of the Port of Lázaro Cárdenas, offering importers and exporters an efficient alternative for commercial exchange with strategic ports such as Tianjin Xingang, Busan, and Ningbo, strengthening logistics chains between Mexico and the Asia-Pacific region," stated the local National Port System Administration (Asipona) of Lázaro Cárdenas.

The MSC Domitille, flying the Portuguese flag, has a length of 299.93 meters. During its first call at the Hutchison Ports LCT Specialized Container Terminal, the vessel handled 2,104 containers.

"The incorporation of the Sierra Service represents another step in consolidating the Port of Lázaro Cárdenas as a world-class logistics platform, by expanding the offer of maritime services and strengthening connectivity with the main markets in Asia. With this, the port provides greater opportunities for Mexican foreign trade, reaffirming its position as one of the main logistics hubs in the Pacific and a strategic ally for the country's economic growth and competitiveness," Asipona concluded.
