Greece Asks EU To Step In Over 'Unlawful Fishing' By Turkey
Greece requested European Union intervention on May 15 to address what it described as unlawful fishing and maritime law violations by Turkish fishermen in the Aegean Sea. Shipping Minister Vasilis Kikilias raised the issue with EU Commissioner for Fisheries and Oceans Costas Kadis in Athens, emphasizing violations of sovereign rights and the law of the sea. The dispute stems from decades-long disagreements between NATO allies Greece and Turkey over continental shelf boundaries and maritime jurisdiction in the Aegean Sea.
