Legend of the Seas has officially become part of the Royal Caribbean fleet following a delivery ceremony at the Meyer Turku shipyard in Finland today.
The third in the line's Icon-class of ships, Legend of the Seas joins sisters Icon of the Seas and Star of the Seas and becomes the line's 30th ship in the fleet – and it's biggest – by one foot.
Executives from Royal Caribbean, the Meyer-Turku shipyard and the ship's Captain, Sindre Borsheim, took delivery of the 5,610-passenger ship, watched by many of the 2,350 crew.
"There has been a lot of innovation and a lot of hard work which has gone into this," said Jason Liberty, Royal Caribbean Group's Chairman and CEO.
"We have been building ships here at Meyer-Turku for many decades and we intend on building ships here for many decades to come," he added.
Michael Bayley, Royal Caribbean's President and CEO, praised the crew for their hard work, thanking 40 crew who had helped deliver the original Legend of the Seas back in 1995.
Bayley singled out Mario "Bingo" Brooks Pecou in particular, Housekeeping Manager, who has delivered 27 ships in his time at Royal – including the original Legend – and presented him with a gift.
"We're incredibly proud to introduce Legend of the Seas to vacationers and continue the legacy of the revolutionary Icon Class," he said.
"This wouldn't be possible without the many talented individuals that came together to deliver what is truly the ultimate family vacation."
Legend of the Seas features the second Royal Railway, an immersive dining concept set inside a retro train carriage (the first debuted on Utopia of the Seas).
In keeping with its Silk Road theme, guests will enjoy Italian, Turkish, Persian, Indian and Chinese-inspired cuisine over five courses. Guests will also be able to book a wine tasting experience on a virtual voyage through Tuscany.
Another new dining concept is the Hollywoodland Supper Club, a multi-course elevated dinner inspired by old Hollywood and AquaDome Market, an all-inclusive food hall with five concepts, along with a new juice and smoothie bar for wellness-focused guests.
The Aquadome Marketplace has four new dining options: Seoul Mate, Cajun Kitchen, Adobo and La Espanola, as well as a new drinks menu: Simply Pressed, which replaces Vitality.
Crème de la Crepe is the one food option that remains in the Aquadome Marketplace.
Legend of the Seas will also mark the debut of an adapted version of the hit Broadway musical of Charlie and the Chocolate Factory, which we had a short taste of onboard.
The ship also debuts the first double deck casino on a Royal ship, across the forward part of Decks 4 & 5.
Many of the line's most popular restaurants such as Giovanni's, Chops Grille and Sorrento's all reappear; as well as the neighborhood concept which debuted on Icon of the Seas.
Legend of the Seas heads off to Cadiz, Spain, in the next few days for its final outfitting, before debuting for travel agents and media on a short sailing on June 29 from Malaga to Rome, before welcoming its first guests on July 4.
It will operate 7-night Western Mediterranean cruises from Barcelona, Spain, and Rome (Civitavecchia), Italy, this summer.
In November, the ship will arrive in Fort Lauderdale, Florida, and will operate 6-night Western Caribbean and 8-night Southern Caribbean vacations including stops at Royal Caribbean's PerfectDay at CocoCay.
