US, Iran Far Apart in Talks to End War and Reopen Hormuz
The US and Iran remain far apart on a framework to end their war and reopen the Strait of Hormuz, with President Donald Trump rejecting Iran's response to his peace plan. Tehran demanded lifting of the US naval blockade, sanctions relief, and control over traffic through Hormuz, while insisting on an immediate end to fighting including in Lebanon. The impasse leaves Hormuz largely blocked, disrupting global energy trade, with oil rising 2.8% to $105 a barrel as of May 11, 2026.
