Dutch Arrest Captain and Stop Containers Violating Russian Sanctions
Dutch Customs arrested the captain of a containership on June 5 and intercepted multiple containers at the Port of Rotterdam as part of a crackdown on sanctioned goods bound for Russia. The vessel operated a regular service between Rotterdam and Saint Petersburg, with research indicating 92 percent of sanctioned goods via liner services originate from EU member states. Authorities found tampered cargo including windshields, car doors, motor oil, and vehicle air filter systems that could be used for military applications.
