Iran intensifies demands to control Strait of Hormuz ahead of Qatar talks
Iran reiterated its determination to control maritime traffic through the Strait of Hormuz, with Deputy Foreign Minister Kazem Gharibabadi stating the country wants an agreement with Oman to oversee ships passing through the vital waterway. The stance raises pressure ahead of peace talks scheduled for Tuesday in Doha, Qatar, where Trump's special envoy Steve Witkoff and son-in-law Jared Kushner are set to attend. An interim deal signed two weeks ago prohibits Iran from charging tolls for 60 days but leaves open the possibility of fees afterward.
