Trump Administration Ends Appeal to Keep Moratorium on Wind Energy Leases
The U.S. Department of Justice ended its appeal on June 15, 2026, regarding a December 2025 court decision that struck down Trump's executive order placing a moratorium on wind energy project applications. A coalition of 18 attorneys general from 17 states and the District of Columbia had challenged the indefinite freeze, arguing it harmed states' ability to meet electricity demands and risked their investments. The administration has agreed to buybacks of offshore leases with TotalEnergies and Ocean Winds.
