New York Sues Trump Administration Over $795 Million Offshore Wind Buyout Deal
New York Attorney General Letitia James and Governor Kathy Hochul filed a lawsuit alongside six other states to overturn the Trump administration's March agreement with TotalEnergies that canceled the company's New York Bight offshore wind lease and provided a $795 million federal reimbursement. The canceled Lease OCS-A 0538 was expected to power more than 700,000 homes and generate $25.6 billion in economic benefits over its lifetime. The states argue the deal violates federal law and challenge the use of the federal Judgment Fund.
