U.S. Congressman Calls for Navy Hospital Ship Deployment to Earthquake-Hit Venezuela
Representative Jared Moskowitz urged the Trump administration to deploy either the USNS Comfort or USNS Mercy to Venezuela following devastating earthquakes that killed more than 1,400 people. Moskowitz highlighted the hospital ships' capacity to provide advanced surgical care, emergency medicine, and intensive care while coordinating humanitarian relief. However, both vessels are currently undergoing maintenance, with USNS Mercy at Vigor Shipyard in Portland, Oregon, and USNS Comfort at Alabama Shipyard, raising questions about rapid deployment availability.
