Ecuador: Cigarette Smuggling Prevented Through the Port of Guayaquil

Ecuadorian customs control units seized 10,440,000 cigarettes attempting to enter through the Port of Guayaquil in a 40-foot container from Panama. The cargo, falsely declared as air conditioners, was discovered through weight analysis and artificial intelligence. With the support of the Ecuadorian National Navy, the container was inspected, and brands linked to criminal groups were identified. This seizure adds to the 2,185,240 units apprehended from January to April 2026.
