U.S. Strikes Iran After Tanker Attack in Strait of Hormuz, Escalating Tensions
The U.S. military struck Iran on June 28 after a Panama-flagged tanker was attacked by an Iranian drone in the Strait of Hormuz, marking the worst escalation since a ceasefire agreement signed two weeks ago. U.S. Central Command said the strikes targeted Iranian military surveillance, communications, air defense, drone storage and mine-laying facilities in response to continued aggression against commercial shipping. Both sides have accused each other of violating the interim peace deal, with tensions extending to Lebanon and the broader Gulf region.
