Bioceanic Corridor: Port Security to Boost Regional Trade
Álvaro Peña, an academic from the Pontifical Catholic University of Valparaíso, analyzes how security in port infrastructure is fundamental for the success of the Bioceanic Corridor. The 2,400-kilometer megaproject will connect Brazil, Argentina, and Chile, with an outlet in northern Chilean ports (Antofagasta, Mejillones, Tocopilla, and Iquique). Trade exchanges between Mercosur and Chile amount to USD 22.934 billion, but transnational organized crime represents a critical challenge for the region.
