Spain Plans Rigorous Quarantine for Hantavirus Cruise Passengers
The expedition cruise ship Hondius is heading to the Canary Islands with an outbreak of hantavirus among its 150 passengers and crew. According to the World Health Organization, three people have died and five more have displayed symptoms of the "Andes" strain, which is transmissible between people. Spain will receive the ship and transfer all disembarking passengers to mandatory quarantine at the Gómez Ulla Central Defense Hospital in Madrid, where they will undergo PCR testing on arrival and seven days later.
